LUIZA TEIXEIRA DE FREITAS

I am an independent contemporary art curator and cultural producer working transnationally, with a practice that moves between Portugal, São Paulo, New York and London, with a longstanding engagement with the Middle East. Among the many projects I develop, my curatorial work with private collections has become a core pillar of my practice, as has my sustained commitment to independent publishing and artist books. In 2018, I founded Taffimai, my own imprint dedicated to experimental editorial projects.

Alongside my curatorial work, I serve on the Board of the Instituto Moreira Salles, and I am also a Board Member of Bidoun. I work as a strategy consultant for the Delfina Foundation in London, and since 2020, I have been the President of Operação Nariz Vermelho in Portugal, an organisation of specialised clown-doctors who bring joy and relief to hospitalised children.

My work extends into the intersection of art, health, and humanisation. In 2022, I completed a postgraduate degree in Paediatric Palliative Care, an area I actively research and support. I am part of the communications team of the Portuguese Association for Palliative Care and collaborate with several initiatives that bridge artistic methodologies with clinical contexts. Over the years, I have cultivated a practice founded on the belief that care, whether artistic, social, or clinical, is a cultural act. This perspective shapes how I think about audiences, relational awareness and the politics of care.

I work closely with hospitals, foundations, and research groups to integrate artistic processes into healthcare environments, promoting communication, emotional literacy, and wellbeing for patients, caregivers, and healthcare teams. This commitment to aligning art with systems of care is central to my broader vision: that culture holds the power to restore, question, and transform the ways we live and support one another.
